The city of Stirling has appeared throughout Scotland’s history, especially during important moments. The city and surrounding area has an incredible number of excellent visitor attractions and a multitude of places and monuments to photograph. In article that follows I write about 3 tourist attractions in Stirling; Argyll’s Lodging, Stirling Castle and Stirling Old Town Jail:
Stirling Castle
Sat 250 feet above the city of Stirling, and surrounded on 3 sides by shear cliffs is Stirling Castle. Stirling Castle is immensely important in the history of Scotland, there have been many coronations within the castle, including Mary Queen of Scots coronation in 1543. Stirling Castle was also witness to an horrific murder in 1452. The eighth Earl of Douglas was victim to James II in 1452. The castle is home to the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, even though they are, sadly no longer stationed there. However, the regimental museum of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, can be found inside the castle.
Stirling Old Town Jail
The Stirling Old Town Jail of today was not the first jail in Stirling, for four hundred years, Stirling’s prisoners were housed in the Old Tollbooth Jail. This jail was awfully overcrowded, and smelled disgusting, with twenty four prisoners to each cell, and zero sanitation. The Tollbooth jail was condemned, due to the awful living conditions there, and in 1847 the new jail was opened. Although the jail was classed as a custodial prison, from 1888 to 1935, it was also the only military prison in Scotland. Today the Stirling Old Town Jail is a visitor attraction, and was only renovated in the 1990’s. As well as guided tours, there is a glass paneled lift that rises to a viewing platform at the very top of the jail. From here a person is able to look out across the Forth Valley, and soak in the atmosphere of the Highland mountains.
Argyll’s Lodging
Argyll’s Lodging is found on Castle Wynd, near the middle of Stirling and is Scotland’s finest existing renaissance house. The house was erected circa 1630, by Sir William Alexander, originator of Nova Scotia and Viscount Canada. Sir William Alexander who was appointed Secretary of State for Scotland, and was then appointed the first Earl of Stirling. Argyll’s Lodging became the property of the Argyll family on his death and was extended by the 9th Earl in 1666. The rooms which include the dining room, bed chamber, drawing room and laigh hall, have all been expertly furnished and restored, as they would have been when the 9th Earl lived there, circa 1680.

Perth, the ‘Fair City’ in Scotland was, at one time, a royal burgh is situated at the head of the Tay estuary. During the twelfth and fifteenth centuries Perth competed with Dunfermline for the right to be the capital city of the nation of Scotland. In the following article I write about three visitor attractions in Perth; Huntingtower Castle, Scone Palace and Elcho Castle:
Scone Palace
At this time, home of the Earls of Mansfield is Scone Palace, and a increasingly popular attraction to tourists from across the planet. The palace of Scone is an important part of the history of Scotland, as the kings of Scotland were once crowned there. In 1306, Robert the Bruce was crowned at Scone Palace, as was Charles II when he took occupancy of the Scottish Crown in 1651. There is a mysterious and beautiful feel to the palace, which is justifiably so.At one time the site was an important meeting place of the Picts and there was also an early Christian church on the site.
Elcho Castle
situated around three miles from Perth, with awe inspiring views across the River Tay, is Elcho Castle. The castle is one of the prime examples of Sixteenth century architecture in Scotland today. The Wemyss family authorized the erection of the castle in the 1570’s. The land had been in the family since 1468, when it was granted to them by King James III. In 1633, the head of the family was given the titles of Lord Elcho and Earl of Wemyss. Elcho Castle and it’s lands remained the property of the Wemyss family until 1929. At this time, the 11th Earl of Wemyss, gave the castle to Scotland. The castle has recently been renovated and is now in the care of Historic Scotland.
Huntingtower Castle
Situated just to the west of Perth is Huntingtower Castle, a medieval pile. Although the castle is medieval in origin, it has been redeveloped significantly throughout the majoprity of it’s history. The Ruthven family were occupiers of the lands and castle from the C12th to the C17th. During this time the castle consisted of 2 separate towers, erected three meters apart. When the Murray family took possession, later on in the 17th century, they decided to merge the two towers, making the house look more like a ordinary country mansion. The bridging work between the two towers is still clearly noticeable today, both on the outside and the inside of the building.

Ever since Inverness became a city Fort William has been the largest town in the Highlands. The town is an amazingly popular tourist destination with many people appearing to climb Ben Nevis. In the article below I introduce to you a small number of different attractions worth visiting if you are visiting Fort William.
The Highly Interesting West Highland Museum
The West Highland Museum in Fort William was founded in 1922. A group of people from Lochaber wanted to create a museum, about life in the Highlands, for the people of the Highlands. The present building was purchased in 1926 from the British Linen Bank, and can be found in Cameron Square, just off the Hight Street. Fascinating and small is how some people describe the museum. The collections in the museum present a fascinating insight into life in the West Highlands over the years. People from all walks of life are represented, through the fascinating collections of photograph’s, artefact’s and picture’s
The Bold Old Inverlochy Castle
In fort William there are two Inverlochy Castle’s, the Old Inverlochy Castle and the more recent Victorian, chateau-style Inverlochy Castle, constructed in the village of Torlundy (which is now a luxurious hotel). The Old castle was said to of been constructed around 1270-1280, by John “the Black” Comyn, Lord of Badenoch and Lochaber, and chief of the Clan Comyn. Even though the castle is ruined, the layout hasn’t altered very much since it was constructed. Lord Abinger made alterations and enhancements to the house, for a visit by Queen Victoria. Old Inverlochy Castle is still an important part of Scottish and English history, because of the role it played during the Civil Wars of the 1640’s.
The Fascinating Jacobite Steam Train
A trip on the Jacobite Steam Train, is an exciting way to experience the magnificent scenery of the Highlands. The Fort William to the port of Mallaig journey takes one on a magical journey through the glens. One of the most riveting elements of the journey is going over the Glenfinnan Viaduct, which the majority of folk will know due to the fact that it has appeared in the films of the exploits of Harry Potter and his friends. The 84 mile journey takes you past Ben Nevis, Loch Morar and Loch Nevis, with a break in Glenfinnan before reaching Mallaig. There is about an hour and half in which to look around Mallaig, before the return journey, back to Fort William. This journey has often been declared, one of the Great Railway Journeys of the planet.
There is plenty of hotel accommodation in Fort William available to book online but you will find a comprehensive list of hotels in Fort William at http://www.fortwilliamhotelscotland.com/

Puerto Vallarta sits composedly between the Bay of Banderas and the Sierra Madre Mountains on Mexico’s west coast. Puerto Vallarta still has the appearance of a small town with narrow cobblestone streets, red tile roofs on top of homes, and small sun-bleached store fronts. Puerto Vallarta has seen a steady stream of tourists since 1963 when the first movie “The Night of the Iguana” was filmed there. Since then, Puerto Vallarta Lodging has seen several resorts being built and new ones popping up every year.
The area’s main attraction is by far the beautiful climate: hot sun with soothing ocean breezes. During the months of June, July, and August expect your sunshine to be intermittent with a rainshower. The rainy season peeks in September and October, so plan your visit consequently.
There are several Puerto Vallarta Mexico hotels that are so huge and elegant that you wouldn’t have to leave the property till you’re ready to head home. So your major evaluation will be having to decide how much time to spend laying on the beach and how much time you will spend exploring the area. A usual day at one of the many Puerto Vallarta resorts might include relaxing by the beach or by the pool, taking some time for tennis, water skiing, or, maybe, parisailing might be your thing! Not so adventurous? How about a relaxing spa treatment?
Shopping can be done in the hotel store and even on the beach where local store owners offer a variety of merchandise. If you’re lucky, you might even run into one of the young boys toting around 3′ to 4′ iguanas. For a couple of green backs, they will let you take pictures with the animal.
Puerto Vallarta resorts boast dazzling dining rooms. Most have
more than one. They can range from casual to formal. They have a perfect setting to create a very warm feel. The food is wonderful and the menus offer a nice selection so everyone can find something there they like.
There are also many attractions outside the hotel. Visitors can take day trips into the jungle by either horseback or jeep. One can also spend the day on a fishing trip. If golf is your game, Puerto Vallarta also offers manicured courses with a picturesque landscape to enjoy.
After a day of fun and the sun goes down, there is still a lot of action in Puerto Vallarta. There are several establishments to go dancing or you can catch a variety of shows. You can also indulge in a sunset dinner cruise or lobster dinner cruise.
At the end the day Puerto Vallarta is a wonderful destination spot. If you ever get the opportunity to vacation, you have to go. You will leave with smile on your face and a lifetime of recollections.

Inverness, a city in the Highlands of Scotland is found in some of the most breathtaking countryside in Britain. In and around the city are many places associated with key moments in the history of Scotland, often these witnessed a large amount of suffering and violence. Of course Inverness has a amazing number of visitor attractions (and the number is always growing). In the paragraphs below I introduce readers to 3 visitor attractions in Inverness, Inverness Castle, Inverness Museum & Art Gallery and Beauly Priory:
Beauly Priory
It was in the 13th century that Valliscaulian Monks founded a community at Beauly Priory. Sadly nobody has the evidence tofactual foundation date but it is commonly agreed roughly sometime during the year of 1230. Sir John Bisset, whose lands were almagamated with the Fraser’s of Lovat, was the patron and landowner of Beauly. The French monks and Sir John are those who named the community Beauly, coming from, ‘beau lieu’, the French for ‘beautiful place’. Sadly, Beauly Priory was abandoned following the 1582 Reformation and blocks of stone were thieved for use the building of other structures in the area. Beauly Priory was passed into state hands in 1913 and the ruins are now cared for by the organization Historic Scotland.
Inverness Castle
Over time there have been various structures where Inverness Castle is today, evidence shows that the site had a structure there as far back as 1057. The very first Inverness Castle was attacked by King Robert I of Scotland, and nearly destroyed. The current castle was designed and built by William Burn in 1836. The bold red sandstone castle, is positioned high on a cliff looking down onto the River Ness and the cathedral on the opposite side. King James I of Scotland conducted parliament at Inverness Castle in the year 1427, and instructed all the Northern Chieftains to be in attendance. Shockingly 3 of these chieftains were later executed for supporting an independent sovereignty.
Inverness Museum (& Art Gallery)
Found in the Center of Inverness is the newly refurbished Inverness Museum and Art Gallery which is well worth a visit especially if it is raining. Inside the museum it is possible to explore Scottish History and discover how the Highlands are connected with the rest of the world. It is also possible to learn about the folk of the Highlands, their traditions and culture. There are several different exhibitions featuring, costumes, textiles, fine arts, crafts, wildlife and archaeology.
If you are considering taking a vacation in the United Kingdom of Great Britain this year and you wishtake some time to consider spending a few days staying in Inverness. Finding hotel accommodation in Inverness online is relatively easy as many establishments have their own web site.
