Dumfries, situated, on the banks of the River Nith, not too great a distance from the Solway Firth is, by a great number, the most populous town in the southwest of Scotland (the population is far more than thirty thousand souls). Dumfries, in a similar way to Ayr, has a close associated with the life and times of, the poet, Robert Burns.

For folk wishing to take a vacation in Dumfries below we have listed information about three popular visitor attractions to visit; Robert Burns House, Lochmaben Castle and Dundrennan Abbey:

Dundrennan Abbey

King David I founded Dundrennan Abbey in 1142. During this time, Scottish abbeys were more often built of a reddish sandstone, but Dundrennan Abbey was constructed of very hard-weathering, local grey sandstone. This is probably the reason why many of the original architecural forms and mouldings have survived. The first monks to reside in the Abbey, originally come from Rievaulx, Yorkshire. Mary Queen of Scots spent her last night on Scottish soil at Dundrennan Abbey in 1568. She then found her way across the Solway Firth to Workington, and was soon imprisoned and captured by the English. The land passed into the hands of the Crown, following the Scottish Reformation in 1587.

Lochmaben Castle

The Lochmaben Castle, that is left today, was not the first Lochmaben Castle. The first was built by the Bruce family, Lords of Annandale, in the beginning of the twelfth century. In 1298, King Edward I of England seized the castle, and then constructed another Lochmaben Castle in a better defensive situation. This second castle was finished in the start of the fourteenth century, leaving the old castle derelict. From 1306 to 1588, the castle was either in the hands of the Scots or the hands of the English. It was in 1588 that James VI attacked and seized the castle from the Maxwell family. The castle was eventually abandoned after the Union of the Crowns in 1603.

Robert Burns House

One of the most famous men in Scotland, Robert Burns, resided in Dumfries during the latter years of his life. The home that his family and he once occupied, has now become a place of pilgramge for his fans from across the globe. He passed away prematurely at the age of thirty seven in 1796, at home. Today, one can catch a glimpse of how his family and he lived, back in the late 1700’s. The desk and chair where he sat and composed are on display, as are many of his orginal manuscripts. On display there are personal items as well, that once belonged to his family.

If you are thinking about taking vacation in Scotland and you plan to spend some time in Dumfries you may wish to book your accommodation online and you will find listings of Dumfries accommodation and hotels at http://dumfries.hotelreservationhelper.com.

The tours tend to start around at 8.15 pm every evening at Piazza San Bernardo. While sitting in a comfortable luxury tour bus you will get a lot of information about the city in 5 languages (English, German, Spanish, Italian and French). You will then pass the Piazza della Republicca, down through the Pinciana Gate and go on to the city wall where you will have a beautiful view over the Villa Borghese. Afterwards, the bus will take you to Piazza Barberini, the Via delle Quattro Fontane and Via Nazionale. From there on you will have a short walk to the Trevi fountain where you have some free time to spend. Then you take the bus again which will take you to Piazza Venezia where the memorial of King Viktor Emanuels II and the tomb of the Unknown Soldier stand. At the end you will also see the Zirkus Maximus, the capitol and of course the Coliseum. So you will see the most important and most interesting monuments of the city. Don’t forget to bring your camera as the lit up monuments offer something extra special to remember your trip by.

The price for an adult is 75 euros and 60 euros for children over 3 years of age. Children between 0 and 2 years can ride the tour bus fro free. The price includes dinner in a traditional Roman restaurant. Here you can enjoy the evening by experience great Roman food and tradition.

When you are in Rome you should really do this sightseeing tour. You see the city from its most beautiful perspective and it is even more enjoyable since the city is not as busy as it is during the day.

Book your accommodation (Unterkünfte Rom) in advance in order to find a good deal. You might also want to have a look for an apartment (Ferienwohnung Rom)! These are cheaper than Hotels in Rom and most of them are right in the centre, which is a good starting point to discover the city. Enjoy your trip in the Eternal city.

Aberdeen is the third largest city in Scotland, in relationship to population numbers. Aberdeen’s buildings, since the mid eighteenth century, have been made using local grey granite and the city is well known for its sandy coastline. This has led to the city being nicknamed the Granite City and also the Silver City. However in recent years the city has added the nicknames of the Energy Capital of Europe or the Oil Capital of Europe due to the discovery of oil in the North Sea. The city has greatly benefitted from the oil industry and the support industries. Nowadays Aberdeen is thoroughly modern and immensely vibrant with a wild nighlife.

Aberdeen hotels are often inhabited by businessmen but also by many other types of people keen to enjoy the many tourist attractions Aberdeen has to offer. Below you will read details about 3; Aberdeen Maritime Museum, Satrosphere Science Centre and Duthie Park Winter Gardens:

Aberdeen Maritime Museum

The Maritime Museum in Aberdeen is found nearby the harbor, at the historic Shiprow. There are glorious sights of the harbour from the museum. The Maritime Museum can be found in a small number of buildings, including a former church and one of the oldest homes in Aberdeen. The museum has exhibits that cover everything relating to the oceanic environment, from the oil industry to the fishing boats. In essence, the museum conveys the story of Aberdeen’s long relationship with the ocean. Some of the collections contain photographs, models, ship plans and paintings donated by the most major shipbuilders of Aberdeen.

Duthie Park Winter Gardens

Lady Elizabeth Duthie of Ruthrieston,in 1881, gifted 44 acres of land, to the council. The land for the park was purchased, as a lasting memorial to her uncle and brother. In 1899, when the gardens were completed, they opened up to the public. However, in 1969 disaster struck and the greenhouses had to be knocked down and rebuilt. This was due to horrendous storm damgage. Today, one of Scotland’s favourite garden attractions are the David Welch Winter Gardens at Duthie Park, and also the largest indoor gardens in the whole of Europe. Each greenhouse has an important collection such as, the Fern House, Victorian House, Japanese Garden, Tropical House, Temperate House and Corridor of Perfumes.

Satrosphere Science Centre

One of the first science and discovery centers in Scotland was the, Satrosphere Science Center, in Aberdeen. This interactive, hands-on science center, has more than fifty exhibits and live science shows, and opened its’ doors to the public in 1988. Although the center is aimed at school age children, the attraction of the exhibits is universal. The center is found in the old tram sheds, nearby the beach, on Constitution Street. The aim is to inspire children to become scientist’s, as interest in science courses in universities, is in decline. One of the best loved exhibits at the center is the famous giant soap bubble, where each child can be encompassed within a magic bubble.

There are many other tourist attractions in and about Aberdeen which are worthwile visiting and the above 3 were chosen randomly. If you are planning to visit Aberdeen, Scotland then you will find numerous quality hotels in Aberdeen, or many other forms of accommodation, available to book online.

Christmas time in Barcelona is to say the least, very special. This is a time for family, friends and fun, and whether you’re young or old, there is something for everyone to do here. It is important to have things to do at Christmas time because for many of us who have to spend copious amounts of time with family, (namely really old relatives or really young annoying cousins), the festive period can be a bit boring or trying, and thus it’s a good idea to plan ahead a bit in advance. This includes getting your flights and Barcelona apartment or hotel Barcelona sorted!

Then relax in your accommodation in Barcelona and put your Tio Nadal (Christmas Log) on the ground. This little chappy is the Catalan’s answer to Father Christmas and is a small figure with eyes, a nose and mouth. This log has the strange and magical ability to poo delicious treats such as sweets, nuts and torrons. Just like children believe Father Christmas is the one who brings all their presents on Christmas Eve, Caca Ti

Finally, a little taste of England has come to Barcelona! On Rambla del Raval 26 has graced us with its presence. For those of you who don’t live in Barcelona as a Brit, you won’t know the craving that we get every now and again when think about what we would be eating if we were at home in England on a Friday night, or when we really cant’t be bothered cooking but don’t really fancy an Indian or Chinese. Yes, it’s that kind of hunger that only a lovely portion of home made chips, mushy peas and a lovely battered cod can fill. Make sure you get your apartment in Barcelona and hotel Barcelona near to this wonderful smelling restaurant!

This fish and chip wittily named; “Fish and Chips”, has only recently opened and is the creation of two mothers; blah and blah. The cuisine here is taditional, authentic fish (just how we like it), where typical fresh cod in batter and chips made from freshly cut potatoes as well as all of the extra side dishes such as mushy peas, baked beans, curry sauce and much more are served.

There are British drinks too, such as the lovely sugary obligatory drinks Vimto and Lilt, and for the Scots out there, good old Irn Bru and to add a Spanish touch you can even get a beer or a glass of wine with your meal.

In May 2008, the very special restaurant was featured in that months edition of Easy Jet Inflight Magazine and the two ladies who run the British food hot spot had their say. Julie, 43, who ran a bar in Liverpool, while Julia, 40, was in marketing in London, before they moved to Barcelona seven years ago.

After setting up a nanny service in the city, Tender Loving Canguros, the women seized upon the idea of running a fish and chip shop late one night, while trying to come up with money-making plans to ensure they need never leave Barcelona. (Aren’t we all!)

Besides the joys of the usual chip shop fare —everything freshly battered, cut, peeled and cooked on the premises—the Catalans have also been initiated into the pleasures of crumpets, haggis and English pies.

“As something new in Barcelona, it’s created a lot of excitement,” says Julie. “We’re the first stop for a lot of people straight off the plane. Some people come in every day and some find us at the end of their stay. We’re also fully licensed and sell the cheapest pint in town.”

“We haven’t had a day off in nine months, but we love it, especially now the weather is warm and we can chat to customers outside on our terrace. We also hold regular themed parties—Easter, Halloween, Christmas. All the locals watch us with amazement,” she laughs.

So, be sure to visit this spot on your trip to Barcelona, and right by it you will find a fine selection of accommodation Barcelona.
